A species name, eg. Malus domestica (Apple) is usually formed of two words.The first, initially uppercased, is the genus to which the species belongs, and the second, lowercase, is the species name within that genus. Neither is unique, but together they form a unique species name. This is called a binomial name, or in common parlance a latin name. There are a few exceptions such as intra and extra genera hybrids which are detailed in the binomial name article, but for the majority of individual species, the format Genus species
