A guild is a permaculture term describing a concept which may also be known as a companion planting group or a polyculture. It is a combination of plants with interactions designed to be beneficial to the group. For example, a guild may include plants to provide nitrogen and bring minerals from deep soil to shallow, to act as pest confusers and to provide edible crops, medicinal plants, or plants with material uses, among other functions.
