Commons knowledge

Wikis are a great way to pool knowledge, to allow a wide range of people equal access to the ability to publish information on a subject. In that sense they are a democratic commons: a place where each member has the same access to publish information. In practice, most wiki's have administrators to stop spam-bots and resolve disputes, but by nature a wiki is nothing without an active community base with free access to contribute to articles.[1]
